while working for the Houston Astros Baseball Club, Arts Center
Enterprises (dba The Majestic Theatre), The University of Hawaii
at Manoa, AXA Advisors LLC, ESPN Regional Television and m2c, Inc.
With nearly two decades of sports and entertainment marketing and
management experience, Matlin has been involved in a myriad of special

Aguilera, Howie Mandel and Ray Charles concerts; NIT Basketball
Tournament; Men’s Volleyball Final Four; The Sheraton
Hawaii Bowl; and the Broadway Musicals “Annie” and

After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1987, Matlin
headed south and began his career as the Marketing Operations Manager
for the Houston Astros Baseball Club. In this role he developed
operating procedures for the stadium information systems, promotions
and special events. Matlin also was the point person for administering
over $3 million in local, regional and national sponsorship programs.
In addition, he created the Astros Fantasy Camp in 1988 –
the first camp ever held in a major league stadium during baseball
season.
After three years as the Marketing Operations Manager, he was promoted
to Director of Sales. At 26, Matlin was the youngest Director of
Sales in Major League Baseball. In this role, he managed a 16 person
department that handled renewals and new sales of group and season
tickets, skyboxes and luxury suites. Matlin established an out-market
sales force in 12 Texas and Louisiana cities to expand group sales
efforts. In his second year on the job, new season ticket sales
increased by 35% and he developed the Diamond Level seating area
which netted an additional $700,000 in ticket revenue for the 1993
season.
After six seasons with the Astros, Matlin moved to San Antonio
to become the Assistant General Manager/Director of Marketing of
Arts Center Enterprises/The Majestic Theatre. In this role, he oversaw
the operation of a 2,500 seat atmospheric theater which is the home
of the San Antonio Symphony and Broadway series. His marketing responsibilities
included the advertising and promotion of Broadway shows, musical
concerts and comedy acts.
From San Antonio, Matlin moved to Honolulu and became an Information
Officer for the University of Hawaii Athletic department and enrolled
in the school’s MBA program. As a UH Information Officer,
Matlin was responsible for the development and integration of information
technology to assist with the sales and distribution of individual,
group and season tickets for the department’s seven ticketed
programs.
While at UH, he led the successful implementation of point of sale
ticketing, credit authorization and remote phone sales to facilitate
increased ticket sales from 300,000 to more than 600,000 in a two
year period. His main focus at UH was to create a 3 year strategic
plan to move UH ticketing to the forefront as the department entered
the 21st century. The strategic plan included on-line internet and
remote outlet sales as well as interactive voice recognition for
telephone sales.
After five years at UH, Matlin became a financial consultant for
