Jim
Donovan has over 25 years of experience in management and administration,
working for the University of Hawaii at Manoa, ESPN Regional Television
and as President of his own company, m2c, Inc.
As an athletics administrator for seventeen years, Donovan tackled
many challenges in a variety of capacities for the University of
Hawaii. In ten years as the # 2 administrator in UH athletics,
Donovan's primary function was the day-to-day management of a $17
million, 350 person (full and part-time employee) department. In
addition, Donovan assisted in the development of long-range plans
to meet the challenges in the ever-changing world of college athletics.
Donovan's leadership was instrumental in the day-to-day operations
of the department, where he directly managed the department's ticket,
business, marketing, computer, sports medicine and media relations
functions. In addition, he supervised other administrators that
were responsible for the remainder of department operations and
was solely responsible for balancing the department's operating
budget.
Donovan's ascent up the administrative ladder began in 1985 when
he assumed the position of Rainbow Stadium manager, after serving
two years as a graduate assistant football coach. In 1988, he took
on the position of sports marketing director. Under his jurisdiction,
the marketing revenues more than doubled in five years.
After his six-year tenure as marketing director, Donovan was promoted
to Assistant Athletics Director for Administrative Services. It
was in this position where Donovan earned his reputation as an
innovative and visionary leader. In his first two years, he implemented
a $2.6 million scoreboard package for the Stan Sheriff Center,
put together a similar package of $1.5 million for Aloha Stadium
and produced the original specifications for a $1.6 million contract
with KCCN Radio. In 1996, he spearheaded the signing of a $6.2
million contract with KFVE-TV, considered one of the most lucrative
television packages in the country.
After leaving the University of Hawaii Athletic Department in
2002, Donovan became the Executive Director of the Sheraton Hawaii
Bowl - an event owned by ESPN Regional Television - and he started
his own marketing and management company, m2c, Inc.
In addition to being responsible as Executive Director for five
very successful Hawaii Bowls, as President of m2c, Inc., Donovan
has provided marketing and management consulting services for Panda
Travel (one of Hawaii's largest travel wholesalers), Sodexho (an
international food service company) and AIO Group (a Hawaii-based
media company.) In 2005, through his work with Panda Travel, Donovan
started www.valuetravelhawaii.com, a website family that is dedicated
to "bringing value back to travel."
As a strong believer that we must give back to our community,
since starting his own company in 2002 Donovan has also chaired
several community fundraising events that collectively have raised
over $355,000. These events include: Hugh Yoshida University of
Hawaii endowment ($70,000); Vince Goo University of Hawaii endowment
($35,000); American Diabetes Rainbow Rhapsody Silent Auction ($12,500);
through Sheraton Hawaii Bowl golf tournaments and winetasting events
raised funds for Rainbow Fever Scholarships, Hawaii Children's
Cancer Foundation, Cure Autism Now, the UH Letterwinner's Club
and the American Red Cross ($198,000); and the UH College of Business
Alumni & Friends (2002 - $12,500, 2003 - $7,500 & 2005
- $23,500.)
Donovan was raised in Anaheim, Calif., where he graduated from
Servite High School in 1978. He lettered in football, receiving
many accolades including Prep All-American, team MVP and honorable
mention Offensive Lineman-of-the-Decade (1970s) in Orange County.
From there, he attended Santa Ana College where he was an All-Conference
player and lettered twice before earning a scholarship to play
for the University of Hawaii from 1981 to '82. In 1982 Donovan
was recognized as an honorable mention All-WAC player. DONOVAN'S RESUME
