These two magnificent State Parks are located on the west side of
Kauai. Together the two parks cover some 6,200 acres and provide
unbelievable vistas. As you drive up the highway you will first
see Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.
The Canyon is over a mile wide and 3,600 feet deep and it displays
a rainbow of colors. At the end of the highway you will come to
Kokee State Park and Kalalau Lookout. Often times this whole area
can be enshrouded in fog as the clouds settle into the mountain
top, but if you go in the morning usually you can see for miles
up the Na Pali coast from the 4,000’ high lookout. Other than
the drive, which is long from almost anywhere on the island, this
value attraction is a must see.
