This statue, a likeness of King Kamehameha I, is one of three that
were made in Paris based upon artwork by T.R. Gould. The other two
statues, just like this one, are located in the U.S. Capitol and
in Kohala on the Big Island, Kamehameha I’s birthplace. King
Kamehameha I is a very revered monarch in Hawaii’s history
because he was the first Hawaiian Ali`i to unite all the islands
of Hawaii and he led with such great intelect.
