(Big
Island)
This State Park situated on 65 acres, containing two impressive
waterfalls, is a must-see if you are on the Hilo side of the island.
As you take the trail the 100-foot Kahuna falls will come into view
first, but press on because the pleasant self-guided walk through
lush tropical vegetation and to scenic vista points brings you to
the free-falling 'Akaka Falls. This magnificent waterfall plunges
442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge. The scene is truly breathtaking
even though the ½ mile loop footpath requires some physical
exertion.
Directions: Located at the end of Akaka Falls Road, off Hawaii Hwy.
220, about 15 miles [24 kilometers] north of Hilo.
